Sometimes we Western New Yorkers are our own worst enemies. We are so brainwashed by the weather jokes and snow references that I think many of us believe that winter starts in September, and we really only have two months of summer.

The Buffalo Area Daylily Society and the Western New York Hosta Society will hold a combined daylily and hosta sale from 9 a. m. to 2 p. m. Saturday at the Harvey D. Morin Post 2940, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 965 Center Road, West Seneca. The event also will feature lectures, auctions, raffle. Open to the public; free admission.

Garden Walk Buffalo will be held from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. Saturday and Sunday. The free, self-guided tour features more than 300 gardens. Maps and restrooms are available both days at Richmond-Summer Senior Center, corner of Richmond Avenue and Summer Street; Buffalo Seminary, 205 Bidwell Parkway; and the Allentown Association, 14 Allen St. An online, downloadable, abridged version provides the map portion of the guide (no garden descriptions) at www.GardenWalkBuffalo.com No tickets required; donations accepted. A free shuttle bus will make a 30-minute loop at the walk.

The Kenmore Garden Club will host a flower show, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” from 2 to 6 p. m. today and from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. Saturday at the Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road at Delaware Road, Kenmore. The show is free and open to the public.
